Calez – “Malcolm X” [Saturday #Culture]
Twenty bucks to the first person who can pinpoint the relationship to some of this content with the title of the song? Anyone? Anyone? No co-sign at several points, but always good to see Malcolm’s face in the culture.

Hmmm… I am not so sure that I agree. I think that it may be counterproductive to see Malcolm’s image brandished in the culture OUTSIDE of the politics he operated in. I would argue that it is important that we safeguard the discursive categories from which we must theorize and educate the public — particularly about figures like a Malcolm X. We have seen what our brother Marable has done to Malcolm’s image. I would go so far as to say that we who are revolutionaries MUST challenge those who use the images of Black radical figures WITHOUT engaging the politics which created them. So at a minimum I would need to see Calez explain this. In any case, that ya’ll have posted this is that work. Thank you! Liberation thru Education!
I agree. It’s kind of like the cult of personality around Che. I’m a big time student of the Cuban Revolution in general and Che’s work in particular, but I never style stuff with Che anymore because most people think it’s just Rage Against the Machine gear or something.
