People Of Color Organize! is an effort to bring together politically-minded people of color and allies around a fresh approach to community organizing, internationalist politics and building movements based on people’s needs and goals.
If you are a writer. A few matters of note for anyone considering submitting writing to People Of Color Organize! editors.
As you might guess, we’re seeking articles on people of color, political organizing and movements. In addition, we’re always looking for pieces exploring race, gender, class, activism and related subjects. Pieces should bring a racial justice analysis out (just saying your own race is insufficient) and help readers connect the dots around various issues and struggles. No poetry. Personal essays, academic pieces, etc. are welcomed, but authors should do their best to make their writing accessible to our diverse audience.
Content should focus primarily on the following
- Race and radical/progressive politics, mostly theory and action
- Actions and theory promoted by and including people of color
- Perspectives on hot issues related to the first two points
Again this list is not all inclusive. POCO’s intention is to bring a balance in terms of domestic and international reporting on these matters. We welcome contributors who can provide information regarding happenings on the ground in places like the U.S and Canada.
We prioritize writing by people of color and women, but we’re interested in checking out writing on these issues from everyone. Pieces should be a minimum of 500 words, have links to relevant citations built in, and be checked for spelling and grammar before submission.
Book reviews. We have plenty of books that need to be reviewed. You just need to get in touch and let us know you’re interested, and provide a reliable mailing address. Those interested in writing book reviews should relate their reviews to matters of race and social justice. 500 word minimum. Please make sure to note the publisher and year early in your review.
Got it all so far? Get in touch with us. If you have an idea for a piece, please let us know what it is. If you prefer us to give you an idea to write about, just let us know that too.
If you’re familiar with WordPress and can post, that is a plus but not necessary. Please allow up to one week to return your email. Things get busy here!
