As a precursor to the new Watershed podcast posting in July, I felt this episode of Against the Grain is appropriate and all our followers should listen to it in its entirety. In light of the name of our site, People of Color Organize, it is important that we expose our own contradictions within the left and between communities of color. It’s easy to criticize the crazy ass right that somehow seems to believe Thomas Jefferson was an anti-racist fighting tirelessly against slavery (…and yes, I have actually heard this logic several times), but it is much more difficult to criticize our political allies. Regardless of where we are on the left spectrum, feelings, denial, and any number of mental blocks limit our ability to be honest about our own bigotry and misconceptions. As a result, my next few posts will explore, expose, and attempt to reconcile us as leftists and POC.
