AFRO-VENEZUELA FILM PROJECT UPDATE!
The fund drive for the Afro-Venezuelan documentary film project is still on! There are only 4 months left and we urgently need your support to make this project happen. With over 1 million visitors and regulars to POCO, we know that making this movie with the peoples’ funds is possible.
The film will feature the lives of African people in Venezuela and the historic changes happening in the country. Did you know that cumbe is the name for liberated spaces created by the cimarrones, liberated enslaved Africans, in Barlovento and in many Afro-Venezuelan areas? Did you know one of the first major resistance acts to enslavement was carried out in 1552 in Yaracuy by an African named Miguel de Buria? Also, did you know Afro-Venezuelans are pushing to be included in the Boliviarian constitution as a distinct ethnic group to provide the community with the same autonomy afforded indigenous peoples despite strong opposition from The Opposition and the petty bourgeois within the revolutionary government? These are some of the facts we will explore in this film and with this being an election year, the documentary is sure to have some exciting features.
Furthermore, we are offering premiums for all the people who donate as follows:
- $10: executive producer credit and DVD copy with bonus features
- $25: executive producer credit, access to daily journal (blog), autographed script (from all of us of course), and DVD copy with bonus features
- $50: executive producer credit, access to daily journal (blog), autographed script (from all of us course), DVD copy with bonus features, and Special Gift from Venezuela.
The best part is that there is still time for YOU to become a part of this delegation through Global Exchange, an international human rights organization which coordinates “reality tours” for delegation members to learn about the actual conditions and true causes of injustices in countries all over the world. The cost for the trip to Venezuela is $1,700 (not including airfare), this includes lodging, two meals a day, and transportation. We would love for our supporters, who have the means, to join us. Click on these links to learn more about Global Exchange and the Venezuela reality tour . Feel free to contact Corina Nolet, the coordinator for the Afro-Venezuelan reality tour, she would love to have you on the delegation as well!
We would like to thank our supporters who have already donated:
