Saturday Radical Culture: Call for Submissions – Indigenous Writers and Artists
We figured we’d all had enough of white people writing “about” us and decided we had to start writing about ourselves, for ourselves … so we did!
We also really want to try and raise up voices that don’t get heard from, even in our own communities: youth, women, two spirited peoples and the many of us living in extreme poverty without access to a lot of technology.
We’re looking for artwork, graffiti, hip hop, photos, journalism, poetry, stories, ideas, quotes, film, book and music reviews, paintings, drawings, and we welcome all indigenous languages.
We’re also looking for help with the distribution of the magazine, and with the call-out itself, especially to jails, shelters, youth detention centers and remote communities.
We go by and agree on a few things: (1) we protect and defend the water, the land, our people and our indigenous way of life, (2) we don’t work with police, government or the state (3) we honor womyn and two spirited peoples, and (4) we believe that no one can struggle for us, but us.
If this is something you could help with (especially by distributing the callout on your website or across any listservs you have access to) it would be great to hear from you!
Submission guidelines, deadlines, etc. online.
