Boston: Rezwan Ferdaus Sentencing
Rezwan Ferdaus, a young Muslim man from Ashland, MA, needs your support! After being entrapped by an FBI informant, Rezwan was arrested on September 28th, 2011 on charges including attempting to provide material support to terrorists and attempting to damage and destroy federal buildings by means of an explosive. He has been in solitary confinement since.
In July, knowing that he would not receive a fair trial, and that he was facing a possible life sentence, Rezwan Ferdaus plead guilty to 2 charges of the 6 charges against him. Part of the plea agreement states that Rezwan is to receive a 17-year sentence.
The sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, November 1st at 2pm at the Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston.
PACK THE COURT! SUPPORT REZWAN FERDAUS!
Thurs. 11/1 @ 2pm
Moakley Federal Courthouse
1 Courthouse Way, Boston
We are calling on you to help us PACK THE COURTROOM! While the sentence of 17 years has already been set, the sentencing hearing is a formality. It is an important opportunity to show our support for Rezwan and his family, and to express our outrage at this ongoing attack on the Muslim community!
His lawyers are also asking community members to write handwritten letters of support addressed to Judge Richard Stearns. Your letters to the judge could be put on the court records as a testament to his good character, would mean a great deal to his family, and could be even possibly be quoted in the media! If this is something you are able to do, please contact FreeTarek@gmail.com for more information. We will help regarding writing and collecting the letters. I’ve personally visited Rezwan a few times and found him to be a kind, shy, respectful young man. We shared laughs over a discussion of the foods we used to love as kids and we talked about the books he’d been reading, like the Arabian Nights.
Rezwan deserves our support and has not received enough thus far! Please spread the word and try to be there. Your support means so much to him and his family.
